FOCAF Policy Council

Policy Council is a group of parents and community representatives that share the responsibility of overseeing the delivery of high quality services to children and families in accordance with Head Start performance standards and regulations.

Policy Council is a requirement of the Head Start Act/Standards. Policy Council is intended to provide parents and community members with the authority and opportunity to participate in shared decision-making concerning the program design and implementation. It also provides members the opportunity to help advocate for children and ensure that the best quality of services are being delivered.

Shared decision-making is a three-pronged approach to program governance. Policy Council Members work with leadership staff and the Board of Directors to oversee the program.
