Head Start & Early Head Start |

|
The federal Head Start program was started in 1965 as an initiative to help communities address the needs of disadvantaged children. Modern Head Start has as its goal increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income and disadvantaged families. The local Head Start programs are administered by local community organizations, with basic funding provided by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families (ACF). Friends of Children and Families (FCF) is the non-profit organization that operates the Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Boise, Meridian, Mountain Home and Glenn's Ferry, Idaho. The dedicated FCF staff of family, education, health and food service professionals bring personal commitment to the welfare of the over 450 children and their families who participate in the local Head Start program every year.
