TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

Perfect Transportation Safety Record

Bus transportation is an integral part of services offered to Head Start families. FCF’s annual parent survey shows 95% of Head Start families feel transportation is essential to their children attending school on a regular basis.

FCF’s Transportation Department currently provides transportation for 24 of its 25 classes.

Transportation services are designed as follows:

  • Bus routes are designed so that a FCF bus will serve those families who live most distant from a center;
  • Families that live 1.5 miles or less from the center are expected to parent transport their children unless exigent circumstances exist, such as a disabled parent;
  • One bus is available that can accommodate children in wheelchairs;
  • Neighborhood bus stops are utilized for picking up and dropping off two or three children at a time at convenient centralized stops;
  • Partnerships with numerous child care providers are developed to pick-up and drop-off children directly to their locations, so parents do not have to leave work to get their child to day-care;
  • Early Head Start families are reimbursed their mileage to attend socializations or can utilize a taxi service available to them;
  • All parents participating on committees or the Policy Council are reimbursed for their mileage and childcare.
